The route: Park at the sharp bend in the road. Then hike into the woods 100ft until you see the trail sign. Recommend a clockwise loop on Stiffknee trail (3.4 miles), then Slickrock Creek Trail (3.1 miles), then Big Stack Gap Branch Trail (1.8 miles), then Fodderstack Trail (3.7 miles) back to Farr Gap.
I've never hiked so far along a Creek and so far along a razor back on any hike in the southeast. This is a tough 12 miles, but incredibly scenic. I'll probably go back when the leaves are off the trees for even better views.
Highlights: trail descends down to the creek, then you have a long beautiful scenic hike along the creek with numerous crossings. You will get wet! The Creek is almost a small river. After the 1.8 mile 1500ft climb out if the gorge, you hike along a razor back with views on both sides of the mountain.
